Art & History Day Trips
Etruscan Lake of the Idols
Departure with driver for full-day
Arrival in the Visitor's Center of Stia National Park
Start of the guided walking tour to visit the Mouth of the Arno River, Lago degli Idoli, Mount Falterona, Montelleri clearing, and the Church of Madonna di Montalto

The Arno River begins in Casentino at the foot of Mount Falterona in the Casentine Forest National Park, in a place called "Capo d'Arno" (Head of the Arno).  This location is marked by a plaque with a famous quote from Dante's Divine Comedy.

Here you will discover the Etruscan archeological site, "Il Lago degli Idoli" (Lake of the Idols). This is, therefore, a day trip which unites important historical, cultural and environmental values, sheathed by the aura of mystery which for centuries has characterized the area.

In addition, at the foot of Mount Falteron, you will find the vast Montelleri clearing, which is of great importance for the fauna of the National Park.

From the characteristic church of the Madonna of Montalto, completely isolated in the woods, you will cross a lovely grove of white fir trees, enter a beech forest, and finally arrive in the meadows of the area. Your last stop will be the summit of Mount Falterona, rising at a height of 1654 m, but first you will explore the Visitor's Center of the Stia National Park, which, through models and illustrations, will serve as an introduction to the area.

All of our day trips are available as individual trips, which can be enjoyed on their own or as an addition to one of our sample itineraries. All you have to do is talk with one of our tour staff: Call 1-800-848-8163
