Montalcino

Montalcino is famous for its Brunello di Montalcino wine. Its distinctive feature is a medieval castle, towering above mountainous forests, surrounded by lush, rolling vineyards that perfectly capture the feel of the Montalcino area. The town is located to the west of Pienza, close to the Crete Senesi in Valdorcia. It is 42 km from Siena, with a population of approximately 5,200.

Montelcino sits in the middle of one of Italy's most important grape-growing areas. The famed Brunello vines for which the region is famous produce the grapes which are used for the production of a number of DOC vintages and a couple of DOCG, Super Tuscan wines. Also well-known is the Montalcino Pato Juice Shop, which has a local historic juice maker.
