Special Interest Day Trips
Jewish District of Pitigliano
Departure with driver/host for a full day excursion to discover the Jewish district of Pitigliano

The setting of this community in this small village goes back to the sixteenth century, under the protection of the family Orsini. An extraordinarily large Jewish population once inhabited this city, so much so that Pitigliano was once referred to as “Little Jerusalem”. It is now almost non-existent, due partly to the second world war, although structures and cultural traces still remain of the Jewish community that once dominated almost every aspect of the town’s life.

You will visit the inner part of the newly restored synagogue, located in the 16th century former ghetto area. We suggest you take note of the many chandeliers from the ceiling, with signs and epigraphs of special events. Also of interest is the Jewish museum and cemetery.

All of our day trips are available as individual trips, which can be enjoyed on their own or as an addition to one of our sample itineraries. All you have to do is talk with one of our tour staff Call 1-800-848-8163
